ARTIST STATEMENT

The study of neuroplasticity shows that our brains can grow and change through conscious manipulation. We have the ability to adjust the way we see the world; the power to change our life experience. And I’m obsessed with it. For example, we can be purposeful in what we consume. If we absorb content that triggers our anxious and fearful neural pathways, it will inform how we feel and develop stronger negative biases. Of course, the opposite is also true. My work is an examination of the brain. I attempt to interpret and illuminate its challenges, its dreams and its ability to cope. I often use bright colors and imperfect shapes to fight the negativity that surrounds us and the deception of perfectionism.   I hope my work helps people develop more positive neural pathways; that it is constructive and ultimately encouraging.

"Rest on the Green Ledge" represents the chaos and layers in life that can overwhelm us. It helps me to think I can mentally "sit" on the green ledge to rest and observe until I'm ready to jump back in.
